The château as we know it today formed in 1891 when it was purchased by Victor Ondet, whose grandchildren ran the estate until it was bought by Sylvie Cazes in 2014.nChâteau Chauvin has a single 15 hectare vineyard of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon vines, with an average age of 30 years. The estate’s terroir is a favourable mix of sand, gravel and clay with traces of iron in the subsoil.nWinemaking at Château Chauvin is managed by Sylvie Cazes and her children. Grapes are hand-harvested late, with stainless steel vinification followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing in oak barrels (between 50% and 70% new each year) for around 16 months.nChâteau Chauvin 2014 is an attractive and fruit-forward wine with a mouthwatering freshness and abundant red fruit charms.
